What does it mean to "Know God"

Knowing God is to know His Son, Jesus. In a world where everything is relative, how are we to know and see where truth resides? Here at Calvary Arvada, we are passionate about Jesus! It is Jesus who gives us peace when chaos abounds, joy when there isn't much to be happy about, power when we feel weak, a sound mind when we need wise decisions and the ability to love others well. Jesus is Truth! Being in God's Word is the only way to know Jesus and to gain his peace, love and joy. James 4:8a says, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." What a promise! The God of the universe wants to know you intimately! God has never broken any of the promises He made; why would He forsake you when you earnestly, with a sincere heart, seek Him?

So what are some applicable things we can practice daily to draw near to our Heavenly Father so we can draw from the power of the Holy Spirit in order to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those around us and lead our families well? Well, to be effective, we must be people who are purposefully habitual in drawing near to God: through His Word, in prayer and through discipleship. Mark 12:30 reminds us to, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength." We must remember loving God is a choice. So we must make a choice to obey what we know from His Word in order to guide our actions in everyday life. In doing so we are cultivating our emotions and feelings for our Heavenly Father - to love Him with all our heart!

Below are three facets of life that we as believers must take serious in our walk with the Lord - daily scripture reading, an effective prayer life, and discipleship. In doing so, our lives will overflow with blessings and love from the Father which will overflow into the lives around you that God has placed in your life.
